Italian Renaissance Drawings On Display In London
160 artworks from more than 80 painters including Michelangelo, Raphael, Titian and Leonardo da Vinci are to go on display in an exhibition of Italian Renaissance drawings which will be held in King’s Gallery at Buckingham Palace in the UK.
Many of these artworks were created as preparation for bigger projects – paintings and sculptures. One of the most recognizable works is Raphael’s red chalk study of The Three Graces, dated ca. 1517–1518. The other one – a study of a single model in three poses – was made for Raphael’s fresco The Wedding Feast of Cupid and Psyche at the Villa Farnesina in Rome.
“The Italian Renaissance would have been impossible without drawing – it was central to every stage of the creative process. These drawings cannot be on permanent display for conservation reasons, so the exhibition is a unique opportunity to see such a wide range of drawings up close and gain an insight into the minds of these great Italian Renaissance artists.” – Martin Clayton, xhibition curator
The exhibition of Italian Renaissance drawings of great masters will be open for public in November 2024.
