Pope Saint Soter. The 12th Pope, a Greek and a martyr. The one who “created” the Easter.

Pope Saint Soter was the 12th pope and likely ruled from 162 to 177 AD. He was Greek and known for both creating the Easter celebration and for his martyrdom.

Previous Popes had been celebrating Easter on the Sunday following Passover, Pope Soter formally inaugurated the day as an annual festival in Rome.

Pope Soter also declared that marriage was a sacrament only valid if blessed by a priest. And he helped the poor. – He was regularly sending money collected in offerings to the Church of Corinth so that that money could be distributed to the poor.
