Rome, Italy – Art of Tattoo in Exhibition “Marco Manzo a Santa Maria dei Miracoli”
“Marco Manzo a Santa Maria dei Miracoli” is the exhibition organized by “Il Cigno GG Edizioni” and inaugurated in Rome in the church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli in Piazza del Popolo.
The exhibition which will last until 31 August 2024 aims to raise public awareness on the issue of violence against women.
For the first time the art of Tattoo, after an institutional recognition at the Art Biennale, enters a sacred place. The works of the artist Marco Manzo will be set up in white Carrara marble depicting hands of women and men who bear witness to violence against women (works from the 58th International Art Exhibition, the Venice Biennale), plus some unpublished works.
Marco Manzo, visual artist, tattoo artist, sculptor and designer, works both in the field of design and sculpture. During his career he has also managed to successfully make his mark in the world of tattooing, a sector of which he is a precursor and main exponent, in particular of the “ornamental style”. By combining various stylistic features, he has managed to contextualise his production in various contemporary art museums. Manzo has the merit of having elevated tattooing to an art form thus marking an important stage in the history of art.
“The ornamental style, of which I am recognized as a precursor – explains Marco Manzo – has as its main aim of redesigning the body or sculpture, streamlining its forms and accentuating its strengths. The starting point is therefore the body and not the drawing. Thanks to the study of individual anatomy, the tattoo therefore does not become the starting point to which the body must adapt, but a consequence of the body itself. It is precisely from this that drawing is born.”
