Saint Vincent of Lérins. A military officer and a Gallic/French monk. A writer and a defender of the “Mother of Jesus”.
Vincent of Lérins (unknown–445), born in Toulouse, was a Gallic monk and author of early Christian writings. Before becoming a monk, Vincent was in the military. In the monastery he wrote under the pseudonym Peregrinus. It was Vincent of Lérins who defended Virgin Mary to be called Mother of Jesus. He was also a leading figure in the Semi-Pelagionism, a doctrine about the role of free will in salvation.
